Tag Division Goes Lucha!

APRIL 26, 1999

Those who ordered the pay-per-view telecast of Redemption gained a glimpse at the new vision of professional wrestling on Charlottesville Wrestling Federation's Mayhem brand.

One of the points of emphasis was the new "lucha rules" affecting tag matches. No longer does a partner have to keep the tag rope in hand and actually make tag in to enter the match. Instead, if a team member exits the ring, another is free to enter. These rules date back years in the rich history of lucha libre, and two wrestlers emerging from that heritage are looking to take advantage.

Those men are Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio Jr.

They believe their foundation in Mexico's lucha libre leagues gives them an edge in tag action on Mayhem. Rey Mysterio is particularly determined to prove himself after compiling a disappointing record in singles competition to this point.

Guerrero and Mysterio have requested a tag team match on tonight's premier episode, and they'll face a tremendous challenge in their first match as a team in the CWF.

The opponents? Former tag champions D'Lo Brown and Mark Henry. This duo just missed out on reclaiming their belts at Redemption, and is angry and fired up to exorcise some frustrations tonight.

Be sure and tune into Mayhem later this evening, as Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio face D'Lo Brown and Mark Henry in tag team action!

North American Title Match Signed!

No one can accuse Taz of not being a fighting champion.

Mere hours removed from winning the North American Title on his first night with the CWF, Taz already has signed on the bottom line to defend his newly claimed prize against Steven Regal on the premiere episode of Mayhem.

The twist? The champion is the one who laid down the challenge.

"Ya know, Regal, you talk a lot of trash," Taz told Web site staff. "Brutha, let me tell you somethin', you mighta made your bones knockin' heads in carnivals before you grew your first short and curly. But you wouldn't last a minute in the Red Hook District! You want me so bad? You got me. I don't run from NOBODY.

"That's why I'm puttin' this belt on the line. To prove to everybody that I ain't a hard man to find. Come to Tacoma, brotha. Better bring your pet Bulldog. Better bring your best. Beat me if you can, survive if I let you..."

Check back for more on the card for Monday's premiere episode as news develops.

NEW CHAMPIONS CROWNED!

The Mayhem brand of the Charlottesville Wrestling Federation made its debut live on pay-per-view at Redemption.

What resulted was perhaps the most unpredictable night in CWF history.

When the smoke cleared, three new champions had been crowned -- including two who were not even on the Mayhem roster when the show began.
